Harmonies and Variations

These additions, some more recent than others, form the basis for central ideas about wearing dresses.

In the first instance, there were pleats and form-fitting tailoring. Initially, the plan was to only wear this as a base layer, to which oversized sweaters or tee shirts could be added.

Then, most recently, came the idealized version of a dress itself. Black, oversized in my most prized cocoon shape, the pleats still in place, and a subtly intriguing detail at the hem offering the absolute slightest peek of thigh flesh.

Somewhere in between these I acquired the silk long sleeved oversized dress of dreams, complete with pockets and a fascinating sleeve pleat detail - a long slit that opens.

The back is finished with buttons.

Also of note, a new lip color. This makes four lipstick tubes on a shelf in my bathroom. Again, my special best friend was involved. She's been there with me for my most notable lipcolor decisions, encouraging me as only a true friend who understands can.

She sent me this Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Color "Cocoa" lipstick in the mail, after guiding me to try it on weeks ago. It reads very dark in person, but not in a goth way. The darkness reminds me of 90s R&B and what I imagine to be the color worn by flappers, even though those photos are always black and white. I think this last resonance is why I felt compelled to combine it with the drop waist pleats.

The Way Things Are

This week in the inbox:

1. I appreciated the professional tone of this email, and noted the line at the end acknowledging that I may not respond at all. Since it seemed time, effort, and thought went into the email, I wanted to reciprocate. I shared my honest thoughts on the concept seeking promotion.

2. Generic flattery will get you nowhere.

3. So I guess a rate card is a thing that exists.

If you have a blog you know all about these matters. If you read blogs but do not have a blog, please know that this is how things work these days. It was not always like this.

I like receiving blog emails and will respond to any thoughtful messages sent my way.

There are some things I've been meaning to tell you.

Look familiar?

This image inspired not just my last post, but the purchase of the necessary color contrasting item to make it happen. I had the kimono. This picture provided the sole reason for my purchase of that color of tights, specifically to be worn with said kimono.

I came across this label because of a friend sharing (Dion Lee) pictures from Oyster magazine. Next thing I'm looking at this profile/interview about Verner.

I wanted to share these images because, well, look at them. They are pretty nice.

I got up from my bed at 1:19am to write these thoughts, and to publish them to the internet, because I like this blog. I apologize to those of you who come here day after day, and then later just every week or month or so, only to see the same old post from over a whole month ago. What a disappointing page load.

But also, I do not apologize. Because to do this with regularity, whether that means 3 times a month or 3 times a week, is to make this a regular part of life, and thus a part of the labor that I give of myself. For me, there is no necessity to do this at regular intervals. It's not as if I need, as all regular labor demands, to maintain some bottom line - whether for myself or some others who want bottom lines to be maintained. I have no such needs or desires that blogger fulfills.

What I value is the vague sense of several of you out there, liking something about this, plus a handful of you that I know really exist for sure and like me. And I value this solely for myself, too. And for when things happen here that we can both enjoy. I especially appreciate those of you who read the writing parts. Because that is in fact what I am doing with my life.

I have so much more I want to give. I have a series on expression and individuality drafted in my head that I want to share with you. I want to show you pictures again, and to be able to do all the things I want to do at a level of quality I believe they are worth. To do so, I sometimes have to ignore all of the internet for a long time.
